New York Jets running back Breece Hall is expected to miss two to three weeks with a groin injury but should be available for the team’s regular-season opener against the Tennessee Titans on Sept. 13, coach Aaron Glenn said Tuesday. Hall was injured Monday during practice after making a catch and going down without contact. The injury initially raised concern because of its timing, but further evaluation indicated it was not considered serious.

The setback is expected to keep Hall out for the remainder of the preseason, allowing the Jets to take a cautious approach rather than risk aggravating the injury. His projected recovery period leaves roughly three weeks between his expected return and the opener in Nashville. Hall also has enough experience that the Jets do not necessarily need him to play extensive preseason snaps to prepare for the regular season.

The injury comes at an important point for Hall, who is entering his fifth NFL season and was rewarded by the Jets with a three-year, $45.75 million contract in May. He established a career high with 1,065 rushing yards in 2025, becoming the first Jets player since Chris Ivory in 2015 to surpass 1,000 yards on the ground. Hall also finished last season with 1,415 yards from scrimmage and five total touchdowns.

Hall has been one of the central pieces of New York’s offense since being selected in the second round of the 2022 draft out of Iowa State. Through four seasons, he has accumulated 3,398 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns, along with 188 receptions for 1,642 yards and nine receiving scores. The Jets will now focus on getting him fully healthy for Week 1 rather than rushing him back during training camp.
